This page contains a collection of free math worksheets to teach fraction division. You'll find sets of worksheets that focus on different fraction division skills, starting with simple fractions and wholes problems and working up to more complex division problems that require reducing and conversion between proper and improper fraction forms. Click one of the buttons or worksheet images below to see all of the worksheets in each set. You can also use the 'Worksheets' menu on the side of this page to find worksheets on other fraction math topics.
Basic fraction division with wholes, including dividing fractions with whole numbers and dividing a whole by a fraction.
Fraction and Wholes DivisionWorksheets for basic division of simple fractions, no mixed fractions or cross-cancelling
Simple Fraction DivisionThese dividing fractions worksheets have problems that can be solved with a cross multiply step, but they do not include wholes so do not require initially converting to improper fractions to solve.
Division with Cross CancellingThe dividing fraction worksheets in this section have a heavy emphasis on problems that require you to cross multiply (or cross cancel) to get the quotient.
Cross Cancelling WorkoutsBasic fraction division with whole parts, no cross-cancelling
Fraction Division with WholesHarder fraction division worksheets include whole parts and cross-cancelling; these worksheets will require conversion of mixed fractions to improper fractions to solve.
Full Fraction DivisionWe often talk of dividing as being the reverse of multiplying, and indeed when dividing fractions this is the case. The way you divide fractions is very similar to the way fractions are multiplied with a simple twist in the middle.
Start by following the basic process for fraction multiplication, turning any mixed fractions into improper ones. Before you cross cancel or multiply, however, swap the numerator and the denominator in the second fraction. This is called taking the reciprocal and it is the key step to turn this into a division operation. Then, cross cancel, multiply across to get the answer fraction, and reduce.
Like the other worksheet sets, these dividing fractions worksheets come in varying levels of difficulty. There are problems that are designed to exercise your cross-cancelling skills, and the answer keys on these worksheets provide detailed breakdowns of how the cross-cancelling works for each problem. Other worksheets include problems with mixed fractions (whole values).
If the answer keys don't provide sufficient help to illustrate the concepts needed for dividing fractions, please make use of the fraction calculator. It will break down the steps in more detail and help you master fraction division in no time!
