These worksheets require ordering sets of positive whole numbers with the same place values in greatest to least (descending) order.
These ordering numbers worksheets require students to put whole numbers in largest to least order. This activity helps reinforce identifying the magnitude a number represents, but also helps students see that ordering cango 'both ways' with ascending and descending sequences. The first group of worksheets start with two digit numbers, which is appropriate for 1st and 2nd grade students. Additional sets of worksheets introduce larger 3 digit, 4 digit, 5, digit and 6 digit problems. A student should have a well developed sense of place value by the time they reach 5th grade, and they should be capable of ordering not just sets of numbers with the same number of digits, but a collection of numbers with different significant digits. As an example, students should clearly understand that 10,000 is larger than 9,999 even though all those 9's in the second number might initially seem to make a larger number. Ordering number worksheets are a perfect tool for identifying these types of errors in student's mental models.
